Chapter 13 & 14 Discussion

Chapter 13 & 14 Discussion

Q Purpose of this Assignment This discussion post will ask you to reflect on a conflict situation, as well as if you've experienced groupthink. Both can be terribly uncomfortable, but one thing to consider is that most job interviews include a question about how you handle conflict. This discussion forum post will give you great practice discussing resolution! (Then you can use that in the interview :-). This question also taps into the idea of "DOA's"--people who just can't make it in a particular work environment. We will work up a case study with this type of example very soon. I look forward to reading about the DOA's you've seen. Instructions 1. Describe a conflict that you have experienced in the workplace (or one from TV or a movie) that did not follow the steps for conflict prevention on p. 172. Describe two that could have helped the situation. 2. Watch the following TED Talk: Tamekia MizLadi Smith - How to Train Employees to Have Difficult Conversations (Links to an external site.) Discuss how Smith's approach can help mitigate conflict when it comes to difficult conversations. 3. Describe an example of groupthink, either based on your experience or in a fictitious situation. What steps from page 177 could have prevented conflict based on groupthink? 4. Describe an example of a DOA that you've experienced (p. 186-188). What qualities did they possess from this list? 5. Respond to another person's post within 24 hours for an additional five points. You will acknowledge the original poster's words and then add your own thoughts. Your responses will follow the 3CQ format: • Compliment — I like that … or Thank you for sharing ... • Comment — I agree with that, I disagree because … • Connection — I also thought … • Question — I wonder why … (Note: You can say these things however you like, but make sure you follow each of the points.)

Conflicts are a part of the workplace but I can recall there was a time when there was a major conflict in my workplace. The environment of my workplace is competitive and people try to look towards it as a healthy completion. One fine day our boss assigned us with some presentation on the same topic and asked us to present in front of everyone. One of our teammates had made an excellent presentation but she had used too vibrant colors. So, one of my teammates had directly said that she had used too vibrant colors and it is not going with the topic.
